Nope, no “bath salts” either. That’s just bullshit fear-mongering.You know “bath salts” doesn’t literally mean the stuff you put in your bath.

Just FYI for those wondering about the “bath salts” issue, this is a great video detailing the attack and surrounding circumstances. The pictures and video footage are graphic so view with caution.
“Bath salts” is purely a slang term for a mixture of stimulants (amphetamines). They used to sell little bags of these at convenience stores, toting them as substitutes for energy drinks. However, after symptoms of psychosis and paranoia popped up, they became illegal. According to the video, generally now people make these in their home, similarly to meth. Looking at the aspects of said drug, a plausible conclusion concerning “bath salts” is that it’s meth 2.0.
One reason why the assailant was found naked is because meth causes the internal temperature to rise; essentially you’re cooking your innards. In order to combat this, the man took off his clothes, and this also happened in other similar instances. Because the autopsy information hasn’t been released, we don’t know if the attacker was addicted to meth, and if he was, for how long. Extended use eventually causes permanent psychosis. According to the above video, police conjecture that the attacker also had LSD in his system. If you look at its effects, one can say that the altered world view plus the amped-up paranoia created a recipe for disaster.
I live in Florida. We have a huge drug problem here. Just an hour or so from me there are meth labs; quite a few have blown up. It’s an extremely addictive drug and relatively easy to make, a rather deadly combination. Along with meth, there’s a huge (and I’d say even bigger) problem with the distribution of Oxycontin and other pain medications. We have “pain clinics,” which are pretty much pill dispensers. People can bring in a script (which is not checked for legitimacy) and/or just pay cash money for large quantities of medication. People come all the way from Tennessee and beyond to go to these clinics.
Therefore it’s not a far stretch to say that “bath salts” are a new substitute for meth since it’s such a problem here. It’s an extremely dangerous “job” to make meth due to the hazardous chemicals and the high likelihood of blowing yourself up. Also the police have been cracking down on meth labs throughout Florida. If “bath salts” are easier to concoct, then people will go with that, even if the drug is much more dangerous.
(As a side note, this isn’t an uncommon occurrence. In Russia the drug krokodil gained notoriety. Pretty much it’s codeine, but the other components cause extreme tissue damage.
